Last year we made changes to tighten up our calving season and hope to tighten it up a little more this year. Because of that we should have calves coming February with most expected this spring and more in late summer early fall. We are hoping to be able to eventually get all calves born within 60 days, by transitioning our fall calving cows to spring. Hopefully, by putting the bulls in as they calve for two months they will breed earlier each year.
We also are hopeful to maybe get down to one bull so we may consider leasing out one of our bulls. We have semen stored that we would like to use also and have considered flushing as well select cows to get more heifers.
Our hope is that by calving early spring our calves can be ready to show at our state fair in their own class as well as on their mother. Also hopefully concentrating them will allow us more time to do other things instead of watching for calves.
